| Review | Rating | Last Updated | New Radio technology If you are considering a Tivoli or Boston, you may want to consider this first. Nice and portable and comes with Mp3 to speaker plugs. Works great with my Mp3 player, just the right size and heft, FM reception is great. | 5 | 755 days ago | Great sound in a clock radio The Teac R-2 clock radio is as they said, the Premium Edition. Features include superb sound, digital display and tuning, battery backup, aux input (for an i-Pod or similar device), 5 preset station memories, a blue backlight for the display, and adjustable treble/bass. The front-fired speaker has good bass response and crisp treble. The battery backup uses a rechargable pack which will hold your presets and alarm clock settings for 6-7 hours if your AC power goes out. The clock time is much easier to adjust than run-of-the-mill clock radios. Push the clock adjust button, and scroll the tuning knob forward or backward. That's it! Simple. Kudos to Teac for that feature! Sound is comparable to the Tivoli Pal or similar radios. The backlight has a dim and a bright setting, both of which will allow the clock to be read from across the room. Some users may find the backlight too bright, in fact. Like anything else, most people will get used to it. My one complaint and the reason I rated this 4 stars instead of 5, is the AM/FM tuner. It's merely average. You'll be able to pick up your strong local stations with superb clarity, but distant stations are a challenge for this tuner. When I hooked up a good external FM antenna, I quickly found out why the Teac engineers didn't pep up the front end of this tuner. The receiver overloaded quickly with the external antenna. If you live in the boonies, by all means use an external antenna to pick up the weak stations. But if you live in a city, like I do, you'll be better off using the supplied whip antenna and contenting yourself with the local powerhouses. To be fair, Teac doesn't market this as a DX machine. But at this price point, I expected a hotter receiver than this. To summarize, the good far outweighs the bad, and most people will find this to be perhaps the best clock radio they have owned. I recommend it. | 4 | 755 days ago | Easily understood instructions I bought this radio because of the customer review about easy setup for setting the clock. Sound is good too. I like simple to understand instructions. Suits my needs. | 5 | 755 days ago | Extra speaker for laptop Great radio alarm clock, and act awesomely as an external speaker for my laptop!!
