| Review | Rating | Last Updated | Bad lock I bought this lock for my laptop at school. After locking it to my desk, it would not unlock. I couldn't figure out the new combination so I contacted Kensington, who said that they would reimburse me for a locksmith. I ended up opening the part of the lock that stores the cable with a pair of scissors. Once that part was opened I was able to easily remove the cable and unattach the laptop from my desk. If I could do this, any idiot with a pair of scissors and five minutes would have been able to as well. | 1 | 799 days ago | DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT As has been mentioned in several of the reviews for this product, the lock has a tendency to "forget" the combination you have set. On THREE occasions, I had to start at 000 and try each combination one by one until I reached the new "mystery" combination that the lock had set by itself.
If the manufacturer has already admitted this defect, Amazon should not carry this product. | 1 | 799 days ago | Horrible lock Like other people here my lock spontaneously changed its combination on me....Surprise! My laptop is currently locked up at my desk at work which ruined my day and is ruining my night. Another stressor I do not need to deal with...do not get this lock if you value the mobility of your laptop over a theft deterrant. | 1 | 799 days ago | Not bad, but don't expect much Not bad as a low level deterrent to theft, but as other reviewers have pointed out, it's not impossible to remove by damaging the cable, the lock, or just ripping it out of the Kensington lock port on the computer. Since each laptop manufacturer has their own way of making the port, you can't blame the lock if the port is weak.
That said, the combo is small, and rather like a cheap bicycle lock. I bought mine for convenience, so that I would not have a key sticking out of the lock of the cable I carry in my bag. (I use a keyed model on my docking station at work.) It's not hard to set your own combo, but I did have some trouble fitting this lock into my T43. Turned out the end of the "tang" was too long to swivel in my laptop's lock port, so I had to file off about 1 mm of the tang for it to work. Your own experience may differ.
If you really want your laptop theft-PROOF, don't leave it unattended. Period. If you want a little piece of mind while you take a meeting, lunch, or bio break, this -- like all cheap cable locks -- will provide sufficient deterrent to "opportunist" thieves. Professionals will be able to liberate your laptop in seconds. So if you're working in a theft-ridden locale ... take your laptop with you. | 3 | 799 days ago | Sense of security The building I work in is in kind of a bad area and I step away from my laptop pretty often so feeling secure with it just sitting out was important to me. This lock is easy to use and very sturdy. I don't think it could be easily broken. I recommend this product. | 5 | 799 days ago |
