GCF Leadership Experience

The GCF Leadership Experience (www.gcfleadership.org) is a one-year course designed by a collaboration of child-focused organisations . Its aim is to help to develop the next generation of leaders for children’s ministry. Participants will be drawn from around the world and will join the Leadership Experience while still continuing to serve with their own church or organisation. (CLICK HERE to download flyer)

THE PROGRAM

Through mentoring, community research, biblical reflections, online discussions and a 5-week residential in South Africa, participants will be encouraged to:

  • Explore Jesus’ commission to ‘make disciples’ of children in a world where diversity in faith backgrounds, family experience, safety and access to technology and education creates huge challenges
  • Discover what God is accomplishing among children across the globe, and enjoy the richness of working alongside a wide variety of children’s ministry leaders
  • Reflect on what it means personally to be a follower-leader in God’s kingdom
  • Experience innovative effective models of holistic children’s ministry
  • Sharpen skills and strategies in team leadership, advocacy and collaboration
  • Join a growing cohort of people working together around the world so that every child has the opportunity to experience the love and hope of Jesus

THE PARTICIPANTS

The Leadership Experience is focused on developing younger leaders whose recognized skills, experience and Kingdom heart is such that they are expected to be in key leadership positions in organisations, denominations or key influential churches in the next ten years.

With this in mind, participants are those who:

  • Have recognized leadership abilities or potential
  • Are experienced practitioners in respected children’s ministry
  • Are likely to be already training others to work effectively amongst children
  • Will most likely be between 25 and 40 years of age
  • Have graduated from high school (minimum level)
  • May be staff or volunteers
  • Affirm the Lausanne Covenant
  • Are fluent in English (for 2016)
  • Can be released from employment for 5 weeks (April 3 – May 8)

THE COST

The cost of the Leadership Experience is $2,000 plus the cost of airfares, insurance and visa for the intensive portion of the program which will be held in South Africa. This low fee is only possible because many organisations committed to this program are donating their time, skills and experience.

It is envisioned that the participants will be financially supported by their organisation, church, family and friends. Limited sponsorship is also available upon application. All participants will be expected to pay at least their travel costs and $500 towards their fees.

THE APPLICATION

Nominations are now open for 2016. The nomination form can be found on the website (www.gcfleadership.org). Individuals can be nominated by organisations, churches, networks and individuals.

Once nominations have been received, they will be reviewed and if the individual is considered to be appropriate for the program, they will be sent an application form and further information about the program.
